The new Ital racer is set to debut in the Daytona 24 hour endurance classic next January in preparation for an assault on Le Mans next June.

More details of the Ital Racer

The newly formed Ital Motorsport Division continues its renaissance with this brutal new Le Mans contender. Currently engineers are exploring two engine options. The most obvious choice is a rebored version of the classic Rover V8, although they are also considering the use of the much acclaimed V6, as used in the Metro 6R4 in the mid 1980s.

The engineers are aiming to achieve in excess of 600 brake horse power. They are confident that the standard Ital chassis will be more than capable of handling this amount of power.

Ital to Take On The Ring

Following on from the le mans racers, the newly formed Lightweight Ital Association Racing Squad (liars) will be making a full assault on the production car record for a lap of the famous Nurburgring, in Germany.

For many years this has been the record which all manufacturers crave. Since the Nissan Skyline GT-R first nipped under the 8 minute mark 5 years ago the record has tumbled. It currently stands at 7 minutes 19 seconds, set by the Radical SR3 (pictured right). Now the liars will attempt what was once thought impossible - a sub-7 minute lap.

To do this they will be using a special Ital with the nitrous injected Mustang V8 engine from the top spec MG SV. This will provide around 900bhp, in an otherwise standard Ital.

The driver has yet to be named, but many high profile figures including Nigel Mansell have been mentioned.
